Chuckanut Drive ... with a gaggle of Healeys

If you own, or are considering owning, an Austin Healey, click here and sign up. This collection of Healey-loving and lovely people are a tad above the median age in the US. Be not afraid. It is the warmest welcome you can imagine. Even if some are original owners from back to the 60’s, and even 1959. Do the math. Keeping a British sports car on the road keeps you young, apparently. At any rate, they assembled a lovely collection of people older than hip hop who were willing to share their wisdom and life lessons. Read on for that.

The annual Northwest Healey meet happened at a very convenient time for those of us who don’t have a day job … Sunday evening through Tuesday. Lovely venue, though. Here’s the ride-along you’ve come to expect on this blog:

Chuckanut is, of course, the archetypal Northwest coastal drive. Video doesn’t do it justice.

Lessons learned:

  • If you want to feel good about yourself, go to a casino, mid-morning, on a weekday.

  • You can be pretty damn spry in your 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

  • Reset your trip odometer to zero when you fill up. Fill up again when it reads about 150 miles.

  • There’s a lovely drive to be had up there, if you are in the neighborhood:

A great way to spend the day near Anacortes / Bellingham.

Happy trails.
